Leading With a Vision

Do you have a clear vision and is it truly the eyes of your business? It is okay if you don't but I hope that after reading this article, you will be persuaded to reconsider. You see, through extensive research and experience, I know first hand that a vision  statement is instrumental in leading your company to success.

I remember my first corporate job right out of college back in 2007. I walked into the office and there were writings on the hallway walls and anywhere else that had visibility. The writings were subconsciously  setting the tone for everyone that worked there and it comprised the vision, mission and core values of the company. I didn't understand the significance at the time but it definitely set the bar for the overall culture of the company.

Can something as simple as a vision statement be that powerful? The answer is yes. Can a person walk a straight line with blind folds on? Most likely not. Just like our eyes provide clarity to our human body, a vision statement does the same to our businesses.

So if you have a vision statement, make it come alive everyday in your business and if you don't have a vision statement, you should consider working on one now. Be in-tuned with your vision and use it as a tool for leading your company. How do you do that?

  1. By having a clear and concise vision that is not only understood by you but by your entire team It.

  2. Allowing your vision to dictate the priorities for your company and setting goals that lead your business closer to its most desired state.

  3. Letting your vision inspire and motivate your team. When you intentionally and consistently communicate your vision, your team becomes more engaged.

  4. Being more decisive and assertive on decisions making because ultimately your choices need to be aligned with your vision.

Leading with your vision is a best practice approach; this is the same approach used by big corporations, some of which we admire. Start transforming your business today by truly leading with a vision.
